Insurance is an extremely important part of society and its main purpose is used as a tool to secure "peace of mind" by providing a service to specific groups of people who are looking to protect the "what ifs" in life.

A great example of that is "auto liability" which, for all intents and purposes, is a contractual agreement that covers the financial responsibilities of an owned vehicle that is found at-fault after an accident or...  when you come right down to it...  it covers the medical bills, the attorney fees, the property damaged, and all the bills that come after an auto accident you caused, based on its specific contract (you will see that a lot).

"Auto liability" is mandatory in the State of Minnesota and currently the minimum limits required are "30/60/10." This means the policy's maximum payouts are $30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident for bodily injury liability (medical bills, attorney fees, etc.) and also $10,000 for property damage liability (other cars, lightpole, mailbox, etc.).

In fact, many accidents can reach hundreds of thousands of dollars and with "million dollar lawsuits" out there many people don't even have enough coverage.  This is why the "umbrella" was introduced.  An "umbrella" is quite simply a policy that kicks in when all of your other insurance is used up, based on its specific contract.  A typical umbrella starts at around $180 per year.

Whether it is a homeowner or businessowner, even "auto liability" and "umbrella," each is a specific group of people searching to protect something.  It could be a house or an antique collection, even "what if I rear-end someone" or "what if an employee gets injured on the job."

That's right.  The insurance company is essentially saying, "If you pay me a certain sum of money per year then I'll pay for anything that may happen to you during that year, to a limit... based on a specific contract."

Except we all know it isn't that simple...

First licensed in 1975, Jim was a captive agent before deciding to open his own independent agency in 1985.  Throughout his years as an agent he has gained a vast variety of experience and knowledge in all areas of insurance.

Linda Nielsen, bookkeeper
Linda has been with the agency since day one and attained her license in 2003.  She may have only received her license in 2003 but her experience as the solitary bookkeeper from the beginning has been instrumental to the agency's success.

After obtaining his license in 2004 Beau began his career with Lakevile Insurance and has been a key component during the information age easing the transition to a paperless agency.

Andy acquired his license in 2004 and had worked at another agency before bringing his hard-working attitude and excellent customer service to Lakeville Insurance in January of 2008.

Still going strong after more than 20 years working inside Enggren's Mall in downtown Lakeville we relocated our office to Anchor Bank in July of 2007...  less than one mile away from our previous office.

Independent  vs.  Captive Agencies

Independent Agencies:

Independent agencies represent multiple insurance companies which allow them the unique ability to work on behalf of the client and quote with all of their appointed companies... providing the means to "shop around" within their agency!

Here at Lakeville Insurance we represent over 20 financially strong companies... "Let us shop for you!"  View all of our insurance companies by clicking here!

Captive Agencies:

Captive agencies (also known as direct writers) work exclusively for one insurance company and their priority is to write business only to that company leaving it in the client's hands to find the best quote.

For example: Allstate may only write for Allstate, GEICO may only write for GEICO, State Farm may only write for State Farm, etc.  For a free quote from one of our many companies click here!
